M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County Recreation ...

SILVER SPRING, MD? M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County Recreation announce a diverse array of camps for summer 2012, featuring aquatics, ice skating, tennis, theatre, overnight nature camps, robotics and golf, among many other options. Camps are available for tots to teens?all skill levels, and at hundreds of locations across the county.

SPORTS CAMPS

? Stand-Up Paddleboard FUNdamentals Camp at Lake Needwood
Ages 12-17, Offered the weeks of 6/18, 6/25 and 7/9 (*Participants must know how to swim)
Learn the basics of Stand-Up Paddleboarding including packing and caring for your board, launching techniques, stances, self-rescue and turning and propulsion strokes.

? Summer Skateboard Camp at Olney Manor Skate Park
Ages 6-13, Offered throughout the summer?Campers learn to push, ride, tack, turn olly, kick flip grind, stall, drop in and get air?all from professional instructors from American Inline Skating.

? Tennis and Tennis Combo Camps at Pauline Betz Addie Tennis and Wheaton Indoor Tennis ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Montgomery Parks offers all-day tennis camp and combo camps featuring a half-day of tennis instruction paired with other sports and activities such as golf, ice skating, outdoor games and more.

? Golf & So Much More! Camp at South Germantown Driving Range
Ages 8-13, Offered throughout the summer
This 50/50 split camp gives kids time to try golf with a PGA pro in the morning, then let loose in the afternoon playing tennis, basketball, archery, mini-golf and other fun activities.

? Ice Hockey and Figure Skating Camps at Cabin John Ice Rink and Wheaton Ice Arena
Ages 6-13, Offered throughout the summer (check guide for weeks for specific camps)
Campers will brush up on their skating, form, and gain conditioning on the ice. Summer Fun Ice Skating Camp offers activities off the ice such as tennis, arts and crafts and outdoor games.

NATURE CAMPS

? Wild About Water Camp at Black Hill Visitor Center
Ages 9-11, Offered the week of 7/9
Boating, fishing and exploring the Chesapeake watershed from headwaters to the Bay are the focus of this ?wet and wild? camp.

? Green Thumb Garden Club Camp at Brookside Gardens
Ages 9-11, Offered the week of 7/9; Ages 9-14, Offered the week of 7/30
Campers will explore and investigate Brookside Gardens? beautiful displays and natural areas learning about many different aspects of the plants and their habitats. Campers will plant and take home vegetable, succulent and butterfly container gardens.

? Nature Tales Camp at Brookside Nature Center
Ages 8-12, Offered the week of 7/16
Campers make their own puppets, build stages, research nature topics and write a script to tell nature stories. The 5-day camp culminates with a grand puppet show for invited guests!

Outdoor Adventure Camp includes an outing to Go Ape!

Montgomery Parks? most popular camp features indoor tennis and ice skating lessons, a field trip to South Germantown Splash Playground and Miniature Golf, nature walks, and miniature train and carousel rides among other activities.

? Outdoor Adventure Camp at Cabin John Ice Rink
Ages 9 ? 13, Offered throughout the summer (check guide for weeks for specific camps)
Campers discover the outdoors in this high-adventure day camp with activities ranging from white water rafting, zip lines, rappelling, aerial obstacle and ropes courses, fishing, canoeing, go-carting and more.

? Adventure Theatre?s Musical Theatre Camp (Ages 8-12)

Campers experience the vibrancy of musical theatre as they work together to produce a full-scale Junior Broadway production. Creating costumes, building the set, choreography, singing, acting and more are part of this dynamic program that finishes with an exciting final curtain call in a Main Stage Auditorium.

? Aqua Sports Camps (Ages 7-11)
This camp has it all ? swimming, diving, trampoline, soccer, kickball, crafts and games. These fun- filled camps are offered at Germantown Indoor Swim Center, Olney Swim Center, and Martin Luther King Jr. Swim Center.

? Little People Centers (Ages 4 -5)
Little People Centers feature games, crafts, stories, sing-alongs, water play and special themes in a supportive nurturing environment specifically designed for the young child.

? Mad Science (Ages 6-12)
Participants will discover the wonderful world of science in the new Mad Science camps. Robots, rocketry, secret agent sleuthing, and engineering are all exciting ways to make science fun.

? Sports Camps (Ages 5-17)
Whether looking for basketball, batons, boxing, fencing, horseback riding, or soccer, Montgomery County Recreation offers sports camps and programs for beginner, intermediate, and advanced athletes.
? Washington Wizards & Mystics Youth Basketball Camp (Ages 8-17)
Campers will learn proper techniques on various skills such as ball-handling, passing, shooting, rebounding, defense and team concepts. The program will include instruction from the Washington Mystics and special guest instruction from current and former Wizards and Mystics players.

? Summer Fun Centers (Ages 5 ? 12)
This affordable program ? $350 for six weeks of full day programming ? offers supervised recreational programming from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., including arts and crafts, sports, games, music and special events.

? Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Programs (Ages 5 ? 21)
Montgomery County Recreation provides TR programming to assist participants with disabilities. Whether looking to participate in a therapeutic recreation camp or requesting inclusive services, the TR team is available to help find the right fit.

? Teen Programs (Ages 13 -16)
The Summer Leadership Challenge and the Junior Counselor Program are fun ways for teens to develop leadership training and job skills in a supportive program.
