As the economy continues to sputter, there is hope that the construction industry, one of the industries crucially affected by the recession, could start to finally see a glimpse of improvement.
According to the National Association of Home Builders, both single family and multi-unit housing spending increased between 2009 and 2011. Construction entrepreneurship has also shown growth in that time span and could continue in 2012.?Construction entrepreneurship was measured at 1.7% of overall entrepreneurial activity in 2011 compared to 1.6% in 2010 and 1.2% in 2007, according to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.?
So what is causing the rise in construction entrepreneurship? The economy is. The recession and housing market crash are factors that have attributed the increase of start-up construction companies. Employees who had lost their jobs due to the housing market crash and recession have taken it upon themselves to create small-business construction start-ups- and now is as good of a time as ever with the steady growth of residential building.? If you can find work to be done, why not start up your own small business construction company? Many builders have friends and neighbors that need projects to be completed. In this regard, both the construction industry circles back to one of its most effective forms of marketing-word of mouth. Construction workers whose careers were affected by the recession would consider starting up a small business construction company if it meant staying in the construction industry. Matthew Hopkins, an employee who was laid-off amidst the recession, is now founder of his own home & business remodeling. "It's something I know well. It's what I'm trained to do?, Hopkins says. ?My niche is to do a lot of small jobs. There's a lot of work to be done if you're willing to do the little odds and ends?.Source: http://gmrassociates.blogspot.com/2012/08/why-starting-your-own-construction.html
